Schnurbäume (lateinisch Styphnolobium, veraltet[1] Sophora) sind eine Gattung mit 45-52 bekannten Arten.[2] Der bekannte Japanische Schnurbaum (Sophora japonica) wurde als Styphnolobium japonicum neu klassifiziert.

Die Gattung Styphnolobium nach Schott enthielt zunächst acht bekannte Arten, die in China und von den Vereinigten Staaten bis Kolumbien vorkommen:[3]

Je nach Literatur werden rund 70[3] Sophora-Arten genannt:[4][5][6][7][8][9][10]
