Mit der Übersetzung ([[Lokalisierung (Softwareentwicklung)|Lokalisierung]]) für ''Mozilla Firefox'' fing Topal im Dezember 2002 eher zufällig an, wie er auf seiner Homepage schreibt. Zuerst habe er nur für sich den Browser übersetzt und nachdem sich in Foren dann Rufe nach einer deutschen Version des Browsers gemehrt hätten, habe er das Projekt auch offiziell übernommen und begann als Verantwortlicher zu agieren.<br />

Diese offizielle Übersetzung basierte wesentlich auf der [[Mozilla]]-Übersetzung von [[Robert Kaiser]].<br />

Aufgrund der großen Resonanz von Mozilla Firefox, wurde über Topal mehrfach im Fernsehen und in diversen Print-Medien berichtet.
